The Alex Smith era in Kansas City is officially over, because the Chiefs are sending the quarterback to the Washington Redskins.
Kansas City will get a 2018 third round pick from Washington, as well as a player to be named. Meanwhile, Smith has just secured the bag for a reported $94 million over five years, with $71 million in guaranteed money. He will be making about $23.5 million per year.
Smith’s tenure in Kansas City lasted five seasons and in 2017-2018, Smith threw for 4,042 yards, 26 touchdowns and had a passer rating of 104.7. Unfortunately, the Chiefs got bounced from the playoffs early, losing to the Tennessee Titans 22-21 in the AFC Wild Card round.
With the trade, the Chiefs will save about $17 million.
This pretty much guarantees Kirk Cousins‘ exit from Washington, as the team won’t have to franchise tag him and let him walk in free agency.
