Though it’s been under some pretty tight wraps, Ruben Fleischer’s Venom is slated to hit theaters this October. Now thanks to IGN, a still was released giving fans a very first look at Tom Hardy playing the lead character, reporter Eddie Brock, before he transforms into the fearsome black and white Venom.
In the photo, Brock can be seen holding a journal which Entertainment Weekly was able to decipher. Written on the pages are questions for the fictitious The Daily Globe including “So how exactly does the Life Foundation go about testing its pharmaceuticals?” and “What about the allegations your empire is built on?” As an explanation, Entertainment Weekly writes, “The Life Foundation appeared in the comics as an organization believing that the Cold War would culminate in a nuclear holocaust. So, to protect their wealthy clients, its leaders constructed a bunker for them to wait it out.”
In addition to the photo, IGN released some footage from December’s Brazil Comic Con Experience, which highlights a behind-the-scenes look at the set. When it came time for Hardy to speak during the panel, the actor confidently noted, “I just wanted to say that I give you my word of honor that I’m going to do everything that I can to deliver the best Venom that I possibly can muster.”
Venom is slated to premiere October 5 and will also star Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed and Jenny Slate.
