Samuel L. Jackson is joining the cast of the upcoming Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures Saw horror franchise reboot. Chris Rock will star and executive produce. Max Minghella (Handmaid's Tales) and Marisol Nichols (Riverdale) have also joined. In the new film, Rock will portray a detective investigating a series of gruesome crimes, and Jackson will play his father. Minghella will play William Schenk, Rock’s partner, and Nichols will play Capt. Angie Garza, Rock’s boss.
Rock's reboot is the re-imagined take on the franchise of about a serial killer named Jigsaw who traps his victims and makes them fight for their survival while claiming it was for their own moral development. As a reminder, the first eight Saw movies were released between 2004 and 2017 and, reportedly, earned more than $1 billion.
This latest installment will be directed by Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II, Saw III, Saw IV). It is currently in production and is scheduled to premiere on October 23, 2020.
