After revealing that his More Life album was just two weeks from being complete, earlier this month, Drake took a break from his tour life to sit down with DJ Semtex. The two essentially discussed his entire life story and controversial events of the last 16 months.
During the hour-long conversation, he touched on his recent rift with Kanye West, after Yeezy publicly mentioned that Drizzy and DJ Khaled were taking away the spot light from other artists.
This came just weeks after their collaborative album was put on indefinite hold (see: digital politics), as well as the “Pop Style” track with JAY Z last spring on VIEWS. After explaining how his outside distractions caused him to second-guess some of his content, including the great 40 giving input at times; Drake even admitted to the project not being his best work – but did cosign the bars.
The Boy took an emotional toll in his personal life, from receiving backlash of his entire discography being questioned – after ghostwriting claims. He even cited how he’s not the only one who uses help for inspiring content on the music he puts out, but refuses to name those rap peers of his.
Out of respect for Nicki Minaj and their past friendship together, he didn’t to mention her in the rap war with Meek Mill. In regards to people comparing their rift to the Jay-Z and Nasbattle in 2001-02, Drizzy flat out said he has no respect for Meek after taking issues to social media.
He said that Jigga and Escobar had a previous respect for each other; but said that he wants nothing to do with Mill after performing “Back to Back” for the last time last year.
Take a listen to more from the interview above, where he says the March 4th episode of OVO Sound Radio will be a very special moment; which may be in reference to the release date of More Life.
