Diarra Kilpatrick is bringing her detective back. Diarra From Detroit returns for Season 2 on July 29, dropping its first two episodes on Paramount+ before rolling out weekly through September 9. Kilpatrick created the show, writes it, produces it and stars in it, and Season 2 hands her character a mess even bigger than the last one.
The setup starts small and spirals fast. What begins as a routine furniture recovery mission drops Diarra Brickland into a triple homicide, a citywide treasure hunt and another deep run through Detroit's criminal underbelly. Kilpatrick has built the series on that exact mix, a comedy that keeps swerving into real danger, and the new season leans all the way into it.
She is not doing it alone. The Season 2 guest list is loaded, with Method Man, Morris Chestnut, Glynn Turman, Bokeem Woodbine, Amber Riley, Lil Rel Howery and Lovie Simone all stopping through. That is a deep bench of talent for a show that started as a passion project and turned into one of the more distinct comedies on streaming.
A New Home After BET+
The return also comes with a move. Season 2 lands on Paramount+ after the show debuted on BET+, a shift that followed Paramount Skydance's acquisition of Tyler Perry's stake in BET+ and the announcement that the service would shut down. Kilpatrick's show is one of the titles making the jump, carrying its audience to a bigger platform.
For Kilpatrick, it is a chance to reintroduce Diarra to viewers who missed the first run. The character is a rare lead, a Black woman anchoring a mystery comedy she built from the ground up, and Season 2 gives her a larger stage to work on.
