This past week Curren$y's 30-city Cruis'n USA Tour made it's way down to San Diego, CA for a show at the North Park Observatory.
Whenever $pitta has announces tour dates I always try to make sure that I catch a show, no matter what. Due to the simple fact that he never fails to deliver a great show for his loyal fan base and he never performs the same set twice, a given. This show was no different, if not even better.
Thanks due to a one-sided Game 6 of the NBA Finals, I was able to catch the show. The game tip-off was at 6:00 P.M. and the doors at the show opened at 7:00 P.M. so I was faced with a dilema, unless either of the team got fast and orchestrated a blow-out early in which the NBA Champion Cavaliers, they were up 15+ mid-3rd quarter and I left early to catch the show. When I first arrived I had missed the openers but got there just in time to catch Jet Life artists T.Y. and Cornerboy P, before I knew the place was packed and Curren$y's DJ, DJ Duffey was setting up. Whether you are 420-friendly or not secondhand smoke at a Curren$y show is inevitable, yet a minor detail at a show where crowd participation is second-to-none. No matter how far back Curren$y decides to dig into his archive you will catch his fans singing along; for an example when he performed “Elevator Musik” from his one of his first post-Cash Money projects This Ain't No Mixtape and “Bout It” from his 2010 release Smokee Robinson, fans in the crowd did not miss a step (or word, in this case). Considering the fact that there has been 30+ mixtapes/albums since the release of those two projects, goes to show how loyal his fans are. If you have not been to a Curren$y show, he is definitely an artist you need to check out. Peep some footage from the past show down below.
